I’m super excited to get back into the swing of posting videos. I honestly love filming and editing though it’s very time consuming but I promise you will see more videos coming your way! You can subscribe to my youtube channel here.
Today’s video is another “my favorite apps” series but self-care edition! February is commonly known as the month of love but since I’m completely single, I like to dedicate it to self-love. This was supposed to be posted in February but I totally forgot so this post is coming to you in April…whoops. Self-love should be a regular thing, and while it usually doesn’t include technology, I found some great apps that I’ve been using almost religiously and they’ve really helped. Plus, since the apps are all on your phone, you can easily get your self-care-fix wherever you are!
Headspace is a crazy popular and for good reason! There are a ton of different meditations depending on what you’re focusing on. They are separated into individual meditations or meditation challenges (which can last 30 days). Each session ranges from 3-20 minutes depending on what you choose. My favorites are the anxiety, creativity, and productivity sessions which all are around 10 minutes each day. One of my favorite features is the daily streak and minutes meditated which really keeps me motivated to do a quick meditation sesh even if I’m feeling a bit tired… plus I always feel better afterward! The app is free to download and the first ten sessions (3 minutes each) are free, and you can repeat them as many times as you like. Afterwards, the subscription is $12.99 monthly or $99 billed yearly which may be a bit pricey but I honestly think it’s worth it. Plus if you’re a student (with a Uni ID) you can get the premium version for only $9.99/year, which is such an amazing deal!
I’ve tried to get into the habit of journaling before bed every day, but since I have to wake up very early, by the time I get to bed I literally want to do nothing other than sleep. If that describes you, I highly recommend checking out the Reflectly app. It’s basically a journaling app, but in order to streamline the journaling process, the app will ask you a few basic prompts (some questions include asking about your mood, what made you happy, etc.) Each day there’s also a unique prompt that you can type an answer to. It’s a very low-maintenance type of daily reflection and I go to bed much more relaxed! Plus, the app is completely free and I love the minimal and aesthetically pleasing.
The SWEAT app is one of my new favorite apps, and I love the user-friendly design so much! It was founded by Kayla Itsines (creator of BBG) and now has programs from 5 famous trainers: Kayla Itsine (BBG 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 & BBG Stronger), Kelsey Wells (PWR), Sjana Earp (Body and Mind Yoga), Stephanie Sanzo (Build), and Chontel Duncan (Fierce). This app has SO many different workout programs depending on what you’re interested in – at home workouts, yoga, weight training, HIIT, etc. This app is also great for quick workouts under 30 minutes, and they have great guided recovery and yoga sessions which I love. I’ve been eyeing this app for a while, and I finally took the plunge and subscribed during a $1 for 3 months promotion, and I’m still on the fence on renewing once my trial period. The subscription can be somewhat pricey at $19.99 per month or $119 per year but if you think about cutting one large Starbucks coffee each week for a year, that would equal the cost of the subscription.
Firstly, I am in awe of the design of this app. It’s beautifully made (it’s actually meant to emulate the feeling of being cozied up in bed!!) and such a pleasure to look at throughout the day! The purpose of this app is to help promote moments of relaxation and well-being, whether you’re at home or in the subway. Whenever I’m feeling stressed out or anxious, I just open up this app and escape to a calm and soothing room for a few minutes. There are a ton of small exercises/games inside the app that are all designed to help you increase mindfulness and relaxation. My favorite include guided breathing, coloring, and word puzzles which may seem strange, but are actually extremely relaxing and help you disconnect from real-life. The best part? The app is completely free and available on IOS and Android!
Shine is a fairly new but very popular self-care app designed towards women. It’s beautifully designed and super relaxing to listen too in the morning. The app helps you start each day with a free motivational text (which they describe as your best friend giving you great advice 🙂 The free version of the app comes with a few short audio meditations to help you unwind, cheer up, reflect, and more. The premium version of the app also comes with various 7-day challenges, along with with short (under 10 minutes) meditations and podcast-like recordings. The app does have a yearly or monthly subscription for about $55 per year (if you pay yearly), and in my opinion, it’s kind of pricy, but if you’re looking for a solid self-care app, I highly recommend this one!
So those are new favorite self-care apps! By the way… this post was not sponsored at all so I truly love these apps so much and they’ve honestly helped me SO MUCH! Whenever I’m feeling anxious or stressed out, all I need to do is pull out my phone and just go through a couple exercises.
